November 30, 5 to 9 pm
CONVERSATION, an exhibition born of an ongoing dialogue between artists Carol Ann Carter and Janet Davidson-Hues, inspires them to observe and critique the meaning and process of their respective art practices. They recognize and celebrate the similarities and differences in their work, looking with language that is either literal, implied, or just under the surface. This exhibit will feature all new work by both artists.
Carol Ann Carter is an interdisciplinary artist who explores the creative possibilities present in the space between things: ideas, cultures, and materials. Carter earned an M.F.A from The University of Notre Dame in 1974, and a B.F.A from The Herron School of Art of Indiana University in 1970. She has taught the University of Kansas, Visual Art Department since 1996. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She received a 2008 Kansas Art Commission/NEA Individual Master Artist Fellowship, and The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission Phoenix Award in Visual Art in 2010.
Janet Davidson-Hues investigates and combines language, image, and object to create paintings and installations as well as performances and videos. Davidson-Hues is an MFA graduate from the University of Kansas and former Assistant Professor of Art at Indiana State University. She has exhibited her work nationally in 20 solo shows and 130 invitational and group shows. Internationally, she has participated in various installations, lectures, performances, video screenings, and exhibitions in Germany, Italy, Israel, and China.
