Event details

On Friday, September 6, at 7:00 p.m. the Raven Book Store will host a reading with Kevin Fedarko.

If you ever take a guided river trip through the Grand Canyon, your guides are likely to tell you the story of Kenton Grua, Rudi Petschek, and Steve “Wren” Reynolds. They have become legends in the world of canyon boatmen because of an adventure they embarked on in late June 1983, and their story is chronicled by former Outside senior editor Kevin Fedarko in THE EMERALD MILE: The Epic Story of the Fastest Ride in History Through the Heart of the Grand Canyon, a book as nail-biting as it is poetic, written by a man who’s worked as a boatman himself. Every year, nearly five million visitors flock to the rim-rock country of northern Arizona to visit the Grand Canyon, America’s best-loved and most widely-recognized environmental and landscape destination. In the depths of the Canyon lies a hidden stretch of the Colorado River known only by river guides.
