Event details

On Friday, May 17th, Marty Olson's painting exhibition "Synapses", will open with an artist's reception from 6 to 8 pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center in Baldwin City.

"Recently I have become profoundly aware of my Kansas roots and am embracing my connection to the prairie." said Olson. "I have no aspirations of becoming a classic landscape painter, but certainly feel the need to represent my acknowledgement of the spiritual strength I cull from the enduring power of the land surrounding me."

Olson has been drawing since early childhood and states that he knew he wanted to be an artist from the time he was old enough to hold a pencil. He attended Northwest Missouri University on an art scholarship. Since then he has pursued his passion for art and has had shows in Pasadena, CA; Taos, NM; Washington, DC; Tulsa, OK; Durham, NC; as well as recent exhibits in Lawrence, Lincoln, Fredonia, Ottawa, and two venues in Salina, Kansas. His artwork has appeared on publicity materials for theatrical works and was chosen for the cover of a published play, "Sonnets for an Old Century," by Jose Rivera, screenplay writer for "The Motorcycle Diaries".

The show will run through June 15, 2013. The Lumberyard Arts Center is located at 718 High St., Baldwin City, KS. 785-594-3861 The public is invited.
