UC Forum: “How Russia Views America”
Event details
- Wednesday, March 13, 2013, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Ecumenical Campus Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave., Lawrence
- Age limit: All ages
Presentation by Ivan Kurilla, Professor at Volgograd State University in Russia "The United States continue to be the major reference point for Russian politicians and for Russian society. The image of America, however, went through many changes and amendments during the last three centuries, and continues to change. Those changes may be described as a 'by-product' of the ongoing dialogue that Russian society is engaged with the other culture; so it based both on Russian 'questions' and American 'responses'. The presentation will demonstrate the evolution of the Russian views on America from the 18th century up to the current moment and find the logic of that evolution." University-Community Forum has been bringing together the KU and Lawrence communities since the 1940’s. It is a series of presentations by faculty, students, and community members to educate and facilitate dialogue on ideas and events that shape our society. Optional lunch at 11:30am, lecture at 12pm.
