he KU School of Music announces a concert featuring the University and Symphonic Bands on Tuesday, March 5th at 7:30 pm at the Lied Center. The University Band’s performance features a piece entitled "...and the antelope play" referencing the Kansas state song “Home On the Range,” and "Earthdance," which has a tribal flare that will get the audience up out of their seats. “Expect the unexpected,” said Sharon Toulouse, University Band conductor and assistant director of bands at the University of Kansas. “The University Band strives to entertain, connect with our audience and send the audience home humming and clapping after the concert.” The Symphonic Band will perform “Four Scottish Dances,” an orchestral work arranged by John Paynter, which is now one of the large standard works in the wind band repertoire. Their performance will also feature two more recently composed works – “Euphoria” and “Hold This Boy and Listen.” Tickets to this concert will be $7/general admission and $5/students and seniors, and can be purchased at the Lied Center Box Office, 785-864-2787 or at www.lied.ku.edu.
