The Ottawa University Theatre Department will present "Nickel and Dimed" on February 28, March 1 and March 2 in the Larry D. Peters Auditorium, 1001 S. Cedar Street, Ottawa. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are $10 for regular admission, $5 for senior citizens and high school students. The play follows the discoveries of a writer whose investigative assignment takes her into the working world of minimum wage jobs in the late 1990s. Her experiences with financial burdens as well as personal relationships with fellow employees expose the employment reality of millions of Americans. "The play was written almost 10 years ago, but the complications are so contemporary," says Julie Noonan, OU director of theatre. "We see how difficult it is to make it on one's own, let alone try to support a family on minimum wage. The play opens both structural questions of society, but also the personal interactions that elicit compassion for those around us." The play is based on the book "Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America" by Barbara Ehrenreich.
