Join us at the Taproom to kick off the 2013 season of the Taproom Poetry Series. February's reading will feature C.S. Carrier, who will be reading from his newly released second book, Mantle, and local Lawrence poet Ben Cartwright, reading from a new chapbook. The featured readers will follow an open mic session, so bring your best work to share. C. S. Carrier is the author of Mantle (H_NGM_N BKS 2013) and After Dayton (Four Way Books 2008). His chapbooks include Postcard Feat (Hinchas de Poesia 2010), Lyric (horse less press 2008), and The 16s (Katalanché Press 2007). His poems have published in many journals, including 6x6, Fact-Simile, Horse Less Review, Indefinite Space, Little Red Leaves, and Word For/Word. He has an MFA in creative writing from the Program for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Currently, he lives in Clarksville, AR and Lafayette, LA, where he’s pursuing in a PhD in English at the University of Louisiana. Ben Cartwright writes poetry and speculative fiction, and lives in the country, north of Topeka, Kansas. He is a PhD candidate in Creative Writing at the University of Kansas. His work has appeared in Sentence, Parcel, and The Stinging Fly. In 2012, he was awarded the Ana Damjanov Poetry Prize, second place in the Prick of the Spindle Poetry Open, and third place in the Atty Awards, judged by Margaret Atwood. He is the current poetry editor of Beecher's magazine, the literary magazine produced by the graduate students in creative writing at the University of Kansas, and James Gunn's Ad Astra, a magazine of speculative fiction, poetry, and scholarly articles produced in conjunction with the Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas. Ben also maintains Kansas Blotter Audio, an archive of poetry recordings produced in the Lawrence, KS and Topeka, KS area.
