The Jewish Community Women are sponsoring two documentary film events at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive. The films examine various aspects of Jewish identity and each showing is followed by a panel discussion. All are welcome to come and enjoy fellowship, intellectual stimulation, popcorn, and cider. A $1 donation is requested. For further information please contact Loraine Lindenbaum at 843-4308 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The second film is: Sunday, February 3, 2:00 p.m. “Mamadrama: The Jewish Mother in Cinema” In this moving tribute to the “real nature” of the Jewish mother, the filmmaker interweaves her personal experience with film clips, interviews with film historians, directors, and actors. The film asks why the Jewish mother almost always is portrayed as a stereotype.
Discussion will be led by Tamara Falicov, Associate Professor of Film & Media Studies at KU.
