The KU School of Music presents the final concert in the 2012-13 Faculty Virtuosi Series on Sunday, April 14 at 7:30 pm in Swarthout Recital Hall, Murphy Hall. The Faculty Virtuosi Series is a showcase of performances highlighting the talents of the School of Music faculty musicians. Additionally, this recital will also feature two guest artists. Teddy Arm, distinguished violist and former violin professor at the University of Connecticut, has an extensive performing record of chamber music appearances at the world's great festivals. Maria Crosby, cellist, is a member of the Kansas City Symphony. The recital opens with a beautiful, profound piece, "Four Hymns for Tenor, Viola and Piano" by Vaughan-Williams, that features the unusual combination of tenor and viola, accompanied by the piano. Genaro Mendez, tenor, associate professor of voice, Peter Chun, viola, associate professor of viola, and John Mueter, piano, lecturer in voice/opera, will perform. Guest artist Crosby will join Ji Hye Jung, marimba, assistant professor of percussion, for "Mariel" by Golijov. The evening will conclude with Brahms' "Quintet in f minor for piano, 2 violins, viola, and cello, Op. 34." Violinist Arm will perform along with the following faculty members: Steven Spooner, piano, associate professor of piano; Sunho Kim, violin, lecturer; Peter Chun, viola and Ed Laut, cello, professor of cello. "The Faculty Virtuosi program is always exciting. It brings the faculty together for much needed chamber music collaboration, and creates opportunities to invite guests to perform with the KU faculty," Peter Chun, professor of viola and recital coordinator, said. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the KU School of Music at 785-864-3436. http://www.music.ku.edu
