Based on top-secret government documents that came to light only during the collapse of the Soviet Union, "The Battle of Chernobyl" reveals a systematic cover-up of the true scope of the disaster. After the film, guest speaker Tatsiana Khvitsko will present. Khvitsko came into the world with no left foot or right leg, a result of being born near the Chernobyl nuclear disaster site. Her story is one of perseverance having traveled from Belarus to Kansas where she now trains for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. The KU Area Studies Centers invite you to attend the International Environmental Film Festival on Wednesday evenings from 9/19 to 10/11.This film festival is organized by the University of Kansas Center for East Asian Studies, Center of Latin American Studies, Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies and the Center for Global & International Studies and the Kansas African Studies Center.
