*This show was originally scheduled for Oct. 20. A conflict has resulted in an earlier performance on Sept. 17* In Stories by Heart, actor John Lithgow offers a touching and humorous reflection on storytelling as the tie that binds humanity. Invoking memories of his father and his grandmother, Lithgow traces his roots as an actor and storyteller, interspersing his own story with two great stories that were read to him and his siblings when they were children. In the first story, Lithgow portrays ten distinct, outrageous characters including a parrot. By contrast, the second story is a dark and comic look at Midwestern American implacability. Stories by Heart provides evidence of the power of storytelling, the magic of theatre and the talents of one of this generation's greatest actors. As an actor, Lithgow has done it all — beginning on the stage, he later moved to the big screen and television. He has been nominated for every major industry award and has won Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for his work. Lithgow starred in TV's 3rd Rock from the Sun, was featured as the voice of Lord Farquaad in Shrek and, more recently, guest-starred in Showtime's Dexter.
