Presentation by Judy Ancel (UMKC Labor Studies), Alice Kitchen (retired social worker) and Melissa Stiehler (student Penn Valley Community College) On May 11, 2012 US helicopters with DEA agents and Honduran police on board gunned down eight indigenous passengers on a riverboat in the remote Moskitia region during a botched drug interdiction. Four died. Our growing military presence and increasing aid to police and army, notorious for human rights violations, is occurring under the pretext of the War on Drugs. The speakers, from Kansas City's Cross Border Network investigated the May 11th incident and will speak about the U.S. role in Honduras. ((The University-Community forum (Wednesdays from 11:30-1:00) has been bringing together the KU and Lawrence communities since the 1940s. It is a series of presentations by faculty, students and community members to educate and facilitate dialogue on ideas and events that shape our society. Presentation: noon-1pm. Optional Lunch served at 11:30 am ($6.50 adults, $3.50 students))
