President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives is a man confronting the survival of his country and people. After bringing democracy after 30 years of despotic rule, Nasheed is faced with a bigger challenge. As one of the most low-lying countries in the world, a rise of three feet in sea level would submerge the 1200 islands of the Maldives and make them uninhabitable. A panel discussion will follow. The KU Area Studies Centers invite you to attend the International Environmental Film Festival on Wednesday evenings from 9/19 to 10/11.This film festival is organized by the University of Kansas Center for East Asian Studies, Center of Latin American Studies, Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies and the Center for Global & International Studies and the Kansas African Studies Center.
