Jayhawk Audubon Society November Program November 26, 2012 - 7:30 p.m. - Free to the public Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 1245 New Hampshire, Lawrence, KS Professor Roger Boyd, Director of Natural Areas and Emeritus Professor of Biology at Baker University will present "Birding the Southeast Atlantic Forest of Brazil." Professor Roger Boyd will recap a September 2012 trip to the remaining 10% of the original 330 million acres of Brazil's Atlantic Forest. The remnants are a well-known destination for birdwatchers because of the many species of birds there not found anywhere else in the world. The Southeast Atlantic Forest is located between the mega cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, and is threatened by development and agriculture. Dr. Boyd taught biology for 29 years at Baker University before moving to partial retirement in 2005, and has been manager of the Baker Wetlands for 31 years. He has also worked on monitoring and habitat management for the endangered Least Tern in Kansas since 1980. Optional dinner with Dr. Boyd - 5:00 p.m. at Carlos O'Kelly's, 707 W. 23rd St, Lawrence, KS The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
