The Lawrence Community Shelter (LCS) will hold its 12th Annual “Chocolate and Tea at Three” fundraising event on Sunday, November 11 at Maceli’s. All donations support LCS programs for employment, housing, and intervention and also help to meet the basic shelter needs of families and people experiencing homelessness.
"Chocolate and Tea" will feature an exotic, delicious assortment of chocolate desserts with gourmet coffees and teas from local restaurants and outstanding individual bakers.
A private reception hour for all VIP ticket holders will begin at 2:00 pm with exclusive chocolate service and complimentary wine selected by Jon Smiley of Cork and Barrel, in addition to priority seating and the opportunity to mix and mingle with LCS board members and fellow community VIP.
During the VIP reception, attendees will also be treated to brief spoken-word poetry by a few current and former LCS guests.
The Chocolate Contest, with entries submitted by excellent local amateur and professional bakers, will be judged by VIPs like Lawrence City Commissioner Hugh Carter & LJ World journalist Chad Lawhorn. In addition, 3 more VIPs will have an opportunity to join the pre-selected judges during the reception. Host John Tacha has been challenged to raise a little money when selecting the additional VIP judges, so be prepared to get out your checkbook for this delectable and exclusive opportunity.
General admission ticket holders will join the VIPs at 3:00 pm and everyone will be welcomed by John and Deanell Tacha, our Chocolate and Tea hosts. All guests will enjoy a buffet of chocolates donated by generous businesses and individuals, complimented by gourmet tea and coffee from La Prima Tazza.
During the main event, Loring Henderson will give a speech about LCS and the state of homelessness in our community, current and future.
Our LIVE auction will feature 12-15 items. The Fund-A-Need auction to allow attendees to directly support programs and services at LCS. The Fund-A-Need auction items will be introduced by current and former LCS guests as they describe how each LCS program impacted their success while at LCS.
Several assortments of the remaining Chocolate Contest entries will be auctioned off if you'd like the opportunity to taste the best of the best.
The Huggins LCS Volunteer of the Year award will be presented to celebrate hands-on volunteer efforts at LCS.
