From 1972 to 1976, when Harry Hughes was a Public Affairs Officer for the American Embassy in Haiti, he and his wife, Mary Lou Vansant Hughes, met and befriended many artists and established a collection of nearly 100 Haitian works. Now, 40 years after their arrival in Port-au-Prince, the Hughes have given their collection to the Spencer. Presented by Former SMA curatorial intern Megan Young, now Assistant Professor of Art History and Director of the Dishman Art Museum at Lamar University, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn about works in this collection. This series of informal gallery discussions is designed for senior citizens, but open to everyone.
