Cory Phillips & the Groove Orchestra The Jazzhaus, Lawrence, KS - August 17th Soul Jazz Erotic Groove Funk Concert Lawrence, KS ~ Not to be missed! Venice, California's Prince of Blue-eyed Soul returns to Kansas for a hometown concert at the Jazzhaus on Friday, August 17th. Cory Phillips has been touring & recording his brand of sexy groove-dance music from the West Coast to the Northwest to the Midwest for eight years, and has made Lawrence, KS a much-anticipated biannual stop each Spring & Fall. Recently pushing more popularity, the song, Alright Tonight, from Cory's 2009 album, CORY PHILLIPS, has been featured this year on NBC's comedy, BENT, . Regarded by many to be the strongest of popsoul singers in independent music today, Phillips has been the subject of recent notoriety due to the lascivious nature of his shows & the sensuous content of his songs. Phillips fills out his band, the Groove Orchestra, by employing the spectacular talents of local session & stage musicians to make each local appearance a sensation. This nine-piece group is made of the area's hippest r/b players; the original grease they slip you keeps you dancing all night long with the tender sounds of a lovemaking soul sexplosion. ~The Groove Orchestra features the top Lawrence-area session players: Dan Hines - bass (Paw, Mountain Clyde, Palomar); Michael Hamm - lead guitar; Nathan Holt - keyboards (Suga Daddies, Approach, Hidden Pictures, the Magentlemen); Tom "Toad" Wenner - drums (Band That Saved the World, Monterey Jack, Lipsmacking Kittylunch); "Rev" Aaron Morris - vocals, trumpet (Band That Saved the World, Carrie Nation & the Speakeasy); Dan Pem - saxophone; Alecia Swearengin - vocals; Anastasia Sims -vocals ~The group is often likened to contemporaries Jamiroquai, Maxwell, & Robin Thicke...and to classic superstars Otis Redding, Michael Jackson, Sly & the Family Stone, Prince, George Michael, the Bee Gees, & Steely Dan. ~Because of a lasting loyalty that dates back to 1998, Phillips chooses the Jazzhaus for all his return concerts. Tickets/Door charges are always kept to a low price, so these shows always reach capacity and throngs of dancers fill the floor. The Jazzhaus has remained the premiere venue for the best regional touring music & local acts in Lawrence, KS. Considered to have one of the best live sound rooms & systems, the "blues & jazz" club provides Massachusetts St. with live music 6 nights a week. (see www.jazzhaus.com for details) ~Cory Phillips is a singer, musician, & souljazzeroticgroovefunk leader from South Texas & Kansas. While falling in love with classic soul, funk, disco, and r/b, he moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of higher tides. His self-titled/self-produced studio debut came in 2009 followed by extensive performing in Southern California & the Midwest. He & his large band of savvy, funkjazz musicians can be found on the club circuit dishing out the swampy dance grooves more than 200 nights a year. SEXTHIRSTYLOVEHUNGER, his second and most anticipated album documentation of sexual/romantic nature, is due to be released in Winter 2012. (see www.reverbnation.com/thecoryphillips www.facebook.com/thecoryphillips or www.myspace.com/coryphillips for more details.) "Cory is a heart first performer who writes songs that can move a room in different ways. Most often we're pulled to the dance floor with the trademark Rhythm and Soul sound that he's perfected by traveling back in time to the 70's and returning with a magical elixir. This is tantamount to his live performances. At other times, with just a guitar and his voice, we're left pondering love and life. Either way its his ability to tell a story with words and melody that will move us. If you have a chance to experience it, don't miss it.” - Donny Pearsons, Actor/Musician "Dedicated to the craft and art of the performing songwriter and overall artist is what the Texas transplant is in a way rarely seen in our day and age a true troubadour and modern day entertainer with amazing skill's. I highly recommend Cory Phillips as a dedicated professional in the performing arts I have observed him for over 13 years and have nothing but respect for his work ethic and overall talent. You want soul and passion and humor and a heart of gold Mr. Phillips is your man.”— Robert Mountjoy, Writer/Director/Producer/Musician “When sensual soul-rocker Cory Phillips brings his summer of love groove-in to the heart of a city he takes you on an unforgettable, incendiary evening of blue-eyed soul & erotic jazz disco. He's a moody jet-setter & sultry tenor who lights dangerous fires with a torch of Family Stone Motown-rock & deep midnight radio-scorching funk-disco songs you wont get out of your head...” —DJ LoveNasty Cory Phillips & the Groove Orchestra - the Jazzhaus, Fri.
