Learning Objectives: • Define and discuss their role as a supervisor • Identify the essential supervisory skills for successful staff management • Identify and distinguish between supervisory work and operational work Schedule: 09:30-10:00 - Registration 10:00-11:00 - Presentation – Terry Proctor 11:00-11:30 - Lunch (10 min break) 11:45-12:45 - Activity – Terry Proctor (10 min break) 01:00-02:00 - Expert Panel Presentation Description (2 hours): In this session, participants will have the opportunity to explore some central characteristics of their supervisory roles. Discussion will focus on critical supervisory skills and functions that affect the performance of a work group. An understanding of these skills and functions will help participants determine how to perform most effectively in their roles as supervisors. Throughout this session, participants may identify changes they would like to make in their daily supervisory activities. In planning these changes, it is helpful to recognize the many forces that influence what supervisors do on a day-to-day basis. Participants will have the opportunity to examine these forces and to develop strategies for eliminating or managing those factors, which limit their effectiveness as supervisors.
