Event details

A pair of avant garde, hyper-atmospheric bands make up the bill tonight at the Replay Lounge 946 Mass., as Buoyant Sea and Meester Magpie headline and open, respectively. Meester Magpie is a one-man band spends as much time deconstructing music as he does actually playing it. His live shows feature near seizure-inducing strobe lights and dual synth keyboards that he wields with the subtlety of a wrecking ball, as he crafts grinding, robotic beats, adding additional layers of fuzz as he sees fit. Buoyant Sea, is a more traditional performer, in that the band's songs actually sound like songs. Driving, techno-inspired beats drive the productions while effect-drenched guitars and vocals build off of that foundation to create something succinctly familiar to fans of Ministry and early Nine Inch Nails fans as well as punk acts like X. The latter comparison, due in no small part to the dueling vocals present on tracks like "This Is The Time."
