- The Jackpot Music Hall, 943 Mass., Lawrence
- Age limit: Not available
After some early confusion, let it me known — the Vivian Girls are indeed playing tonight at the Jackpot Music Hall, 946 Mass., tonight with No Joy and Mouthbreathers filling the rest of the bill. The Brooklyn indie rock trio are known for their high energy, tempered by wispy discordant vocals. They've been compared to Black Tambourine and Tiger Trap by more than one reputable music outlet and it's easy to see why, but rather than distance themselves from the comparison, Vivian Girls' response has been to embrace it and move forward. No Joy is a splendid addition to the bill, offering levels of distortion and noise on par with classic Sonic Youth. The whole shebang gets started with Mouthbreathers at 9 p.m. Get there and stay there, as this is the best show in town on this fine Friday.
