The Lawrence/Douglas County Chapter of the Kansas Equality Coalition (KEC) will sponsor its first LGBT Summit on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Maceli’s, 1031 New Hampshire, Lawrence, KS. Our intent with this year’s Summit is to present new ideas and encourage personal and community growth on issues that affect LGBT individuals, their allies, their employers, their schools, and their community. The summit will include a line-up of speakers to educate the public and increase the understanding of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people. We also hope to provide valuable insight into some issues facing the Lawrence Community about gender identity and the effects an inclusive community can have on the health of a community, including mental health and economic development. After the speakers, a candidate mixer will take place. "The goal of the Summit is about education, connection, and inspiration,” explains Scott Criqui, Chair of the KEC Task Force. “My hope is to connect people – create an educated community that allows leaders to demonstrate leadership.” The Summit is free and open to the public. All City Commission and School Board Candidates have received a special invitation to attend.
