Small Bones (LA) / Scammers (KC) / Lazy (KC)
Small Bones, Scammers at Replay Hot on the heels of last night's Ice Age show is another punk offering at the Replay, 946 Mass., with the riotous New Orleans duo Small Bones. The band's 2010 debut relied heavily on dual lyrical assaults and the strength in contrast between the male and female vocals that created a rowdy, almost combative sensation in their songs. A good thing, considering the songs focus on rejection or rebellion. It doesn't hurt that every track on their self-titled debut is economical to the core, running its course in less than three minutes. Like last night's show, tonight's support offers a great contrast to the straightforward, punk headliner. Kansas City band Scammers is another duo, but frontman Phil Diamond handles the vocal work. Diamond croons his way through some stripped-down gothic songs that burn slowly and provide a solid foil to Small Bones' instant gratification. The show tonight is $3, with DJ Shanks on the patio. It all starts at 10 p.m., assuming you're at least 21.
