Denmark band Ice Age braves the Kansas heat to put on an early show tonight at the Jackpot, 943 Mass. The hardcore band graduated from the school of short, three-chord songs and are all the better for it. Maybe the most remarkable aspect of Ice Age is that despite their short song lengths, the tracks still manage to be dynamic, usually changing into a completely different song during a breakdown or final verse. They are joined by Dark Ages out of Kansas City and Lawrence's own Moutherbreathers, another straightforward group that delivers great music with no strings attach or unnecessary showmanship. If you want a show that is the definition of direct, this is it. It starts at 8 p.m. and is $8. You must be 18 to enter.
