The Black Angels Now we're talking. Austin, Texas neo-psychedelic rock act The Black Angels stop by the Bottleneck, 737 N.H., tonight for one of the most anticipated shows of the spring. Touring on the back of last year's "Phosphene Dream," the group, which takes its name from a Velvet Underground lyric, has built up a strong following with little-to-no air play, instead banking on intense live shows and a steady release schedule. Anchored by Alex Maas' haunting, instantly recognizable vocal, the band explored as much of their avant garde underpinnings as they could, casting a long shadow over garage rock in the process. Their new album doesn't remove itself from the band's previous works, so much as expand upon them. The breakout song on "Phosphene Dream" is easily "Telephone," an upbeat, organ-heavy romp that sounds like it came through a time warp from 1967.
