Medicare Part B patients will have no co pay if the claim is approved electronically. Flu Facts: more than 250 million doses of influenza vaccine are produced annually. It is currently estimated that there are 25 million to 50 million cases of the flu per year, leading to 150, 000 hospitalization and 30,000- 40,000 deaths in the US. Influenza is a highly contagious and transmitted by direct contact, through coughing or sneezing, or by hands contaminated with respiratory secretions. Adults are most infectious one day before systems appear and up to days afterward. The disease can affect all age groups. Rates of infections are highest among children. Serious illness, complications and death due to influenza are highest in persons aged 65 years and older, and persons with chronic cardiac or respiratory conditions. The most effective way to prevent the disease is vaccination. The influenza vaccine can prevent 70% to 90% of influenza-specific illness in health adults. Among the elderly, the vaccine reduces severe illnesses and complications by up to 60% and death by 80%.
