Paul Lauter is the Allan K. and Gwendolyn Miles Smith Professor of Literature at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. He is the editor of THE HEATH ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN LITERATURE which changed what has been taught over the last 20 years--his anthology included minorites, women and other groups--in short, he expanded the definition of American literature. He has published many books, including "Blackwell Companion to American Literature and Culture." In 2006 the American Studies Association presented him with the Bode-Pearson Prize for lifetime achievement in American studies
