The music of Brooklyn's Vivian Girls is moody, boozy, drenched in reverb, and unfailingly energetic. It's primal rock music played by cute, tattooed girls who split the difference between The Shangri-Las and The Wipers. Like fellow Brooklynites Crystal Stilts or Woods, it's not garden-variety pop music but rather something more oblique and mysterious. Or maybe it's simply a soundtrack for a crazy night on the town. Either way, the trio comes highly recommended by Pitchfork Media—but you should check them out anyways.
