Channeling the glory days of '90s indie rock (Sonic Youth, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr.), The Dactyls employ alternate tunings and interweaving lead guitars to create densely textured, off-kilter tunes. The group recently tracked an album in Austin with engineer/producer Jim Vollentine (known for his work with ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead). Oklahoma singer/songwriter Ali Harter is a familiar face in Lawrence thanks to her frequent appearances at the Replay and other local dives. Her voice is one you won't soon forget, possessing a seductive charm not unlike Feist or Cat Power. Harter has made numerous treks across the States and to Europe in the past year, grabbing crowds with the still-potent combo of voice and acoustic guitar. Lawrence's Mansion plays instrumental rock and metal at uncouth volumes. Lawrence's Suzannah Johannes sings sweetly and writes some of the best folk-rock melodies this town has ever inspired.
