Thao Nguyen and Mirah — two of folk pop's hottest tickets — team up for a special collaborative tour, playing each other's tunes and then some. Thao is one of the best performers you'll ever find with just an acoustic guitar, but the addition of a band called the Get Down Stay Down made her 2008 release "We Brave Bee Stings and All" a stellar sophomore effort. Thao's style is rooted in folk music, but her band is irresistibly funky and danceable. With support from Kill Rock Stars Records and a nonstop touring regime, Thao and TGDSD are finally getting their due. Our podcast interview with Thao. Mirah has recorded six albums for K Records in the past nine years, starting with the lo-fi indie gem "You Think It's Like This but Really It's Like This" (2000) through her most recent album "(a)spera" released earlier this year. The Olympia, Wash., songwriter has a knack for sophisticated song structures and playful compositions that help her stand out from the pack. Her sweet voice and kitchen-sink approach is similar to longtime collaborator Phil Elverum of The Microphones.
