Tonight's special edition of the Breakdown features NYC music writer and DJ Chairman Mao spinning with resident DJs BSears and Stackswell. "Chairman Jefferson" Mao began writing about rap music in the early '90s and has contributed to such publications as Rolling Stone, Wax Poetics, The Source, Vibe, and XXL (where he remains a senior writer and columnist). Mao is also the one of the scribes behind beloved underground humor/hip-hop 'zine, ego trip (1994-1998), and a co-executive producer of the VH1 reality television series "The (White) Rapper Show" and "Miss Rap Supreme." Mao can be found every other Saturday evening at the controls at his longtime DJ residency at downtown Manhattan watering hole APT, where he heads up two of the venue's signature parties: the vintage soul and deep funk soiree Bumpshop and the old school hip-hop and disco-oriented, Grand Groove. He has hosted and spun with such world-class guest selectors as Cut Chemist, Peanut Butter Wolf, and Just Blaze.
