If you don’t buy into all of this holiday cheer and forced joyfulness, stop by the Jackpot Music Hall, 943 Mass., tonight for an appropriately somber, yet compelling, show. Sad Bastard Night features Suzannah Johannes and The Roseline’s Colin Halliburton performing a handful of stripped down, folk/country songs to match the dreary weather, but don’t let that dissuade you from going. Anyone who has seen Johannes can attest that her songs are as haunting and beautiful as they are approachable, benefiting from the improved accessibility that comes with simplicity. At the same time Halliburton’s voice is better suited for the added focus that comes with acoustic sets, as he is capable of gentle emotion when not competing with electric guitars and an uppity crowd. The 9 p.m. show is $3. 18 and over.
