Rogue Wave delivers catchy and innovative indie pop in the vein of The Shins, Built to Spill, and Band of Horses. The Oakland, Calif., band has evolved into a bigger-sounding unit, but frontman Zach Rogue's distinctive voice and easy way with melody remains at the forefront. A leap to Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records should hardly be interpreted as an attempt to appeal to a more mainstream audience; rather, Rogue Wave stays faithful to its exploration of pop structures with just enough bells and whistles embellishing the edges.
