Pseudo-hillbillies Deer Tick is not shy about entertaining the crowd. Led by frontman John McCauley (whose voice is best described as if “he’s been gargling gravel with moonshine”), the Rhode Island act recently finished its disc “The Black Dirt Sessions.” But, really, the concert experience is where it’s at with this band. As McCauley says, “Our live shows sometimes tend to go a bit haywire. We like to put on memorable shows, the kind of shows that you don’t see very often. If you don’t want to get covered in beer or confetti at one of our shows, I’d suggest not standing up in the front.”
