The Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas presents “Global Solutions for Global Poverty,” a program that will focus on relieving poverty and encouraging economic development throughout the developing world. The program is in an interview format with John Page, former chief economist for the Africa region of the World Bank. “Global Solutions for Global Poverty” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Dole Institute. “A discussion on the issue of international aid and growth is one that was specifically requested by KU students,” said Bill Lacy, director of the Dole Institute. “This topic is also of great importance to Sen. Dole, a recipient of the World Food Prize. John Page’s expertise in the growth of developing nations will frame this discussion on global poverty in a current manner.” Page is an adviser to the African Development Bank and the Global Development Network. He is also a Distinguished Visiting Fellow in the Global Economy and Development program at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. From 1980 to 2008, Page was a World Bank economist and manager, undertaking a variety of research, policy and operational assignments, including director of poverty reduction, director of economic policy and chief economist for the Middle East and North Africa. He has also worked as a consultant for many international development and economic entities, including the United Nations Industrial Development Program and others. The forum is free and open to the public.
