Event details

The Lawrence Community Shelter will be host to a “Red Shoe” benefit event from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 16 at Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.

The emphasis on red shoes and the theme for the event, “There’s no place like home,” is based on the Wizard of Oz, said Loring Henderson, shelter executive director.

Attendees are encouraged to wear red shoes for the event, which will feature dancing, a raffle for red shoes, an art auction and the local band, Sellout. Prizes will be awarded for most creative red shoes.

Tickets for the event are $45 in advance, and $50 at the door. All proceeds will be used to help fund the shelter’s general operations. For more information, contact the shelter at 832-8864, or visit lawrenceshelter.org.
