The Spencer Consort will present a performance entitled "The French Confront Italian Baroque Music" in the Spencer Museum of Art Central Court. The concert includes 17th and 18th century music primarily by French composers, demonstrating how they became ever more influenced by Italian music as they progressed through the Baroque period. Among the composers whose works are represented on the program are Jean Baptiste Lully, Pietro Locatelli, Jean Baptiste Loeillet, George Frideric Handel, and Joseph Bodin de Boismortier. The Spencer Consort is a chamber music group that plays on instruments like those in use in the 17th and 18th centuries. The musicians on this concert are Joy Laird (Baroque flute and alto recorder), Bailey Pike (alto recorder), Elizabeth Berghout (harpsichord), Paul Laird (Baroque cello), and Sylvia Stoner (mezzo-soprano). The concert is free and the public is invited. For more information, please call 865-5946.
