$3 to eat, $5 to enter the competition. Winner gets prize money. Bring your own crackers and vote for for your favorite. The Palpitaters are singer and songwriter Sean McEniry (formerly of Tank Farm and Hellcat Trio), guitarist Chad Bryan, keyboardist Dave Randall, bassist Brad Nichols, and drummer Justin Parr (all except Parr also play in The Ants). The group's donkey-shaking cocktail of Bakersfield country, soul, and R&B consists mostly of McEniry originals with the occasional Ray Charles or Gram Parsons number peppered in. The Kansas City Bear Fighters used to be The Denver Broncos, but their legal department didn't have the resources to mount a cease-and-desist defense against a pro football team. Employing ukulele, mandolin, acoustic guitar, upright bass and strategically selected Hawaiian shirts, the group's gleeful sound recalls Tiny Tim or Jimmy Buffett after a helium-sucking contest.
