Kevin Devine has spent his entire life in New York City, but his indie-folk sensibility makes him seem more the Midwestern type. He spent a couple minutes on Capitol Records and made a record with Rob Schnapf, but Devine is more likely to be an indie darling than a major-label stud. His new album "Brother's Blood" features the fine work of his Goddamn Band and some cool guitar-rock jams in the vein of Built to Spill and Modest Mouse.
Tour mates Miniature Tigers recently swung through Lawrence with Bishop Allen in support of their debut album "Tell It To the Volcano." The Phoenix band crafts poppy indie-rock reminiscent of bands like Grandaddy and Grizzly Bear, replete with nifty hooks and creative instrumentation.
