Event details

Crystal Stilts is a Brooklyn band that could only be from Brooklyn, because in most other places people would be all like “Huh?” The group's minimalist noise-pop/garage rock evokes the Jesus and Mary Chain and the Velvet Underground, slathering its melodies with broad strokes of reverb and its vocals with stoicism (think Ian Curtis on sleeping pills). Former Vivian Girls drummer Frankie Rose plays a stand-up kit and barely breaks rank with a plodding backbeat, while guitarist J.B. Townshend plays simple yet sound three-chord riffs. Smarty-pants music critics also reference New Zealand bands like The Chills and The Clean in reference to the Stilts, but the group is quickly making a name for itself with its Pitchfork-approved lo-fi squall.
