Disney's High School Musical will be presented by Lawrence Community Theatre and its Youth Education Program, and performed July 23, 24, 25, and *26 at Lawrence High School, in cooperation with USD 497. Tickets are now available at the LCT box office (785 843-7469) and online at www.theatrelawrence.com. Tickets purchased in advance will be reserved seating. Tickets purchased at the door will be general admission. Evening performances will begin at 7:30pm and the Sunday matinee will begin at 2:30pm. The show tells the story of a popular high school basketball star and a shy, smart newcomer who discover they share a secret passion for singing. When they sign up together to audition for the lead roles in the school musical, it threatens the rigid social order and sends everyone into an uproar. In a desperate effort to maintain the status quo, the "jocks," the "brainiacs" and even the drama club regulars plot to separate the pair and keep them offstage. By defying expectations and taking a chance on their dreams, however, the couple inspire other students to go public with some surprising hidden talents of their own. The cast of 45 is under the direction of Charles Goolsby with musical direction by Mary Baker and choreography by Alex Shaw. Cast members for the show include Kayla Motley as Gabriella, Ben Markley as Troy, Annie Wade as Sharpay, and Evan Georgie as Ryan. The ensemble features: Abbie Wise, Abigail Schmidtberger, Alex Glanzman, Alexis Jones, Allison Hunt, Andrea Coleman, Autumn Emerson, Bob Newton, Caitlyn Tilden, Donnie Rucker, Elizabeth Schmidtberger, Emmalee Squires, Gabi Sangervasi, Julia Guthrie, Juliana Hacker, Julie Alley, Katie Meyer, Kayla Clark, Kelsey Johnson, Kendra Schwartz, Louisa Holland, Madi Brunkan, Marshall Wetta, Mary Cairns, Mary Soderberg, Megan Workman, Meredith Baker, Michaela Miller, Muncel Jones, Olivia Brien, Quinn Wasson, Rachel Baumbach, Rhiannon Crocker, Samantha Lenz, Sam Dowell, Sara Schaffer, Savanna Gaumer, Talyor Moldenhauer, Trust Marshall, and Wes Fletcher. A reception sponsored by KU Credit Union will be held in the high school cafeteria at 6:30pm before the opening night show. The reception will feature decorations, refreshments and a costume contest. Those participating could win prizes for coming dressed as their favorite character from the show.
