- Cost: Free

Lawrence's annual downtown sale (always the third Thursday in July) runs from sun-up to sun-down.
Preview: Bargain hunter Katy Seibel stretches her budget in a sneak peak of the sidewalk sale
Twitter alerts from the sale: Many retailers continually roll out new items throughout the day — stay up to speed with new finds by following our bargain hunters at twitter.com/ljwmarketplace and twitter.com/cravelawrence. Tweet all your best finds and hot tips for fellow shoppers using the #swsale hashtag and you could win a $50 VISA gift card! There is also a Gowalla trip for you check-in types. Complete the trip and you're entered to win another $50 VISA gift card.
Traditionally, the Sidewalk Sale involves joining a pack of sweat-soaked bargain hunters who brave the heat to score the best deals of the year. This year is unlikely to be any different. We suggest bringing bottled water, sunscreen, and maybe even your own roll of loo-paper. And don't forgot to feed the meter!
Downtown will be packed and parking spaces will be non-existent... lucky for you the Lawrence Transit System will waive fares on all eight fixed routes, including the seven routes that go downtown (download a route map).
