Kansas City's I Love You resembles something like what Franz Ferdinand might sound like—on acid. The band's improvisational noise jams invoke discordant melodies and loopy guitar skronk fit for a mental-hospital freakout or a punk-rock dance party. There's also traces of Kevin Ayers and Robyn Hitchcock in the group's retrotastic psych folk, filtered through warbling tape machines and some of the creepier scenes from "Magical Mystery Tour."
