The KU Department of Design welcomes papermaker as part of lecture series Jennie Frederick, a renowned papermaker, will visit campus to speak about her craft as part of the Hallmark Design Symposium Lecture Series. Frederick will speak on Monday, February 23, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. in 3139 Wescoe.Frederick earned a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and a MFA from Indiana State University. She apprenticed at Twinrocker Handmade Paper and with Bob Serpa at Imago, and founded Kansas City Paperworks in 1983. She has taught papermaking at the Kansas City Art Institute and at Maple Woods College, where she heads the art department. She has exhibited internationally and received numerous travel grants, including from the National Endowment for Humanities.For nearly 25 years, the KU Department of Design has offered the Hallmark Design Symposium Series, sponsored by an endowment from Hallmark Cards, Inc. Each semester several creative and articulate designers, writers, artists, and educators speak at the Spencer Museum of Art. Students, faculty and community members are welcome to attend these lectures.This lecture is free and open to the public.
