Event details

Contest: Win tickets to this show!Despite their brutal namesake, Indiana's Murder By Death is more country-gothic than actual goth. Nick Cave would enjoy the group's maudlin, minor-key pub songs, while Ennio Morricone might smile kindly on the group's recent Spaghetti Western material. Lyrically, the group tends toward the macabre and the concept-oriented. Fresh off the heels of their recently finished East Coast tour, Murder By Death will be performing the complete two albums in their Desert Series: 2008's "Red of Tooth and Claw" and 2003's "Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them." Accompanying the show will be a program of the evening's set, as well as a large video projection. The Builders and the Butchers are a barnstorming group of folkies who stomp so hard they just might bring down the rafters. Presenting a distinctly Gringo take on El DÃ-a de los Muertos themes, the group purveys jolly Ninth Ward folk tunes with macabre lyrics and street-performer instrumentation (pieces of which they've been known to pass out to audience members). Comparisons to the Decemberists are inevitable since they kick it Portland-style, but these West Coasters are a bit more ragged around the edges.Note: After being originally scheduled for the Granada, the show was moved to The Bottleneck.
