Imani Winds, the Grammy-nominated wind quintet, performs its tribute to the extraordinary life of Josephine Baker (1905-1975) as a progressive thinker, an innovator and as one of the most significant jazz performers of all time.Backed by projections of historical film footage, the quintet will be joined onstage by jazz vocalist Rene Marie and percussionist Joe Tompkins.Over three acts, Imani Winds will explore the vibrant and controversial phases of Josephine’s life and the intense, commanding quality of her voice through Imani-arranged wind compositions and Ms. Baker’s iconic cabaret songs.
