One of these days, Truckstop Honeymoon may well become known as a badass bluegrass band from LAWRENCE. But for now, they're still often known as transplants from N'Orleans, as so much of their latest music is infused with their experience being dislocated by Hurricane Katrina. The husband/wife duo's fifth LP "Great Big Family" boldly reflects on the loss of their former life in the Big Easy and the start of a new one in Kansas. From the band: The Camptown Ladies are Gina Gallina Hancock on banjo and guitar, Beth Chrisman on fiddle, Melissa Carper on upright bass and Sly Barrack on lead guitar. All the ladies sing and write originals. Their distinctive sweet 3 part harmonies have been alikened to "the Andrews Sisters gone South." Sly Barrack "Mr. Nutritious" on lead guitar completes this harmonic feast with his fortifying rhythm and delicious riffs. From the fast foot stompin hillbilly to the swingin old jazz standards to the heartbreakin' country ballads, the Camptown Ladies will put a spring in your step and a zing in your heart.
