Acoustic originals from Lawrence expatriate Matt Toplikar, who's home from Las Vegas for the holidays. Toplikar's influences span folk, country, blues, and early punk with lyrics at the forefront, ie, songs sung at the Taproom inspired by the Taproom. Also playing: Laurel Woodhouse--Laurel is a jaw-dropping singer who, years ago, provided lyrics and vocals to the popular K.C. funk band, Jose PH. While in Lawrence, she built up a loyal fan base for her solo performances and fronted the funky folk band Sweet Sassy Molassy. She then moved to New York where she fronted the rockin' bluegrass band Eveneye. Mike Wood--Mike made a name for himself sneaking jazz riffs into insanely high energy bands like The Vexed and Richard Pryor on Fire, but since then he's been living in New York and D.C., experimenting with both electronic music and more recently with dark, bluesy personal songs. Micah Bailey--Micah honed his chops on bass guitar in pop-punk bands, but later switched to composing amazingly intricate melodic instrumentals with strange, driving time signatures reminiscent of Tool. He's also played with the folk band Sick Bird, and backed me up with some great bass lines on more than a few of my songs over the years. Recently he's been writing some lyric driven work that he's agreed to share with us.
