From the Spencer: Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience Tibetan culture. The Tibetan Monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery are currently in the Kansas City area, where they are performing several peace-dedicated pujas—chanting rituals of prayers and blessings. For the Lawrence program, they will present Tibetan spiritual music and dance, along with other demonstrations of traditional Tibetan culture, including a brief talk on the Tibetan Buddhist view of the mind. Gomang Chief Administrator Geshe Losbang Tsultrim says, "The Gomang Tour Group (comprises) expert dancers in the Tibetan tradition able to perform sacred, traditional dances as well as traditional ethnic dances. In addition, they have the capability of doing polyphonic chanting in which the monks intone multiple chords at the same time. This type of chanting is acclaimed by experts to be unique and indicative of specialized training now known in the culture of the Western world." This program is co-sponsored by the Spencer, the KU Center for East Asian Studies, and the Tibetan Education Project.
