KU hosting events to raise awareness about breast cancer

Kansas University is hosting a race and softball game Saturday to raise awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds for research and patient care. The Jayhawks for a Cure 5K and Pink Diamond Challenge will benefit the Breast Center at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the KU Cancer Center. The events are an initiative of Kansas Athletics and the Emily Taylor Women’s Resource Center. The race begins at the Burge Union on KU’s campus. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and the race will begin at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $15 for students and $20 for all other participants. There will also be a 1-mile noncompetitive walk. Participants can pre-register on the Emily Taylor Women’s Resource Center Web site or the Kansas Athletics Web site. On-site registration will be available as well. The Pink Diamond Challenge begins at 1 p.m. when the KU softball team takes on the University of Oklahoma at Arrocha Ballpark. Both teams will wear pink-trimmed uniforms to raise awareness of breast cancer. Admission will be $3 for anyone wearing pink. Admission for youth ages 5 to 17, faculty and staff and senior citizens is $5 and is $8 for adults. KU students with a current ID can enter for free. Donations will be accepted at the door as well.
