The KU Department of Design welcomes Hallmark Design Symposium Nick Vedros, photographer, to KU on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 6 p.m. in Wescoe Hall, room 3139.Vedros will present an informative, inspiring, and entertaining program on his approach to advertising and commercial photography. He will examine the images he has created throughout his career and explain his problem-solving methods. Vedros will share his new brand identity, his marketing pieces, and how creating new images combined with the newest equipment and techniques keeps the work coming in. He will also discuss marketing and style, how to get your work seen, and the different approaches he has used during his career to gain national work. Vedros will also discuss the realities of the business and how to succeed in the commercial advertising market.Nick Vedros has become an icon in commercial photography over his many years in the business. He has received numerous Gold awards including Best of Show local Addys, part of Grand Effie campaign for Apple Computer, Archive International Top 200 Advertising Photographers, honored as Canon Explorer of Light, numerous top honors for N.A.M.A. Vedros' work has appeared in CA Photography Annuals 1993, 1995, 2001 and 2003. He has been featured in articles in Photo Electronic Imaging, Photo Insider, Studio Photography, Rangefinder and American Photo. He was also the subject of a video produced for Adobe.For nearly 25 years, the Hallmark Design Symposium Series has been offered by the KU Department of Design, sponsored by an endowment from Hallmark Cards, Inc. Each semester several creative and articulate designers, writers, artists, and educators visit KU to share their experience. Students, faculty and community members are welcome to attend these free lectures.This event is free and open to the public.
